Inscribed and signed by the author on the first free end page and dated by the author, Dec. 25, 1954. William A. Keleher (1886-1972) was a prominent Albuquerque lawyer and historian that authored several books on the Southwest including the " Maxwell Land Grant" (Santa Fe, 1942) In this book the author tells the stories of the American occupation of New Mexico in 1846; the Confederate invasion of New Mexico by Texans in 1861; of the march of California troops into New Mexico in 1862, and the exile during Civil War years of the Navajo Indians at Bosque Redondo, on the Pecos River, known in tribal history as "The Long Walk". 534 pages, index. No dust jacket. Original red cloth hardback. Ink mark on bottom edge of book. Corners of book are rubbed through cloth. Binding is tight and interior of book is clean with only some foxing due to age on some of the pages. Book is in Very Good condition.
