This unit was made up primarily of citizen soldiers of the National Guard and included many Texas members. The author of the book, Hollis G. Allen, then a first lieutenant, was awarded the Bronze Star for valor after the Lost Battalion survivors were finally released at the war's end from the POW camps where they suffered unbelievable hardships. 208 pages including an appendix which list the names and rank of the members of The Lost Battalion.
