Stanley writes of his last African adventure (1887-89) and his rescue of Emin Pasha from the followers of Mahdi in Southern Sudan. He also writes of his encounter with Pygmies that were still a mystery to the outside world. Two volumes in original green cloth with blind stamp of the African continent on the front of each with gold titles. Gold titles on the spine with a bust of Stanley. Gilding on top edge is dull. Tightly bound and hinges intact. Clean and no writing, bookplates, or owner's names. Volume I, 547 pages, appendix. One map in pocket at rear. Map is 95% complete and is in several pieces, torn at the folds. Lower right corner section missing. Volume II, 540 pages, appendices, index. Two maps in a rear pocket. One map is missing (A Map of Emin Pasha's Province). All maps in pocket are torn at the folds and in fragile condition. Over 150 illustrations. The books have shelf rubbing on the edges, but are not through the cloth. No fraying to the cloth. Some discoloration to the green cloth binding. Both volumes were issued without a dust jacket and are in Very Good condition. A nice collectible set.
